Practice Guidelines

I am Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (reg: 099452) and am registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Care and Professionals Council (reg: PYL20875). I am also a member of The Institute of Psychedelic Therapy. I subscribe to the BPS codes of ethics, supplemented where necessary by the HCPC code of ethics.

Confidentiality is an essential part of creating safety and trust in the therapeutic relationship. I hold all records and personal contact details securely, in line with the Code of Ethics of the BPS and HCPC, and are solely for the purpose of maintaining effective therapeutic treatment. No material or information will be passed on to other parties (including courts, medics, other professionals) without prior consent.

Exceptions to the confidentiality contract would only be breached if serious concerns are identified regarding a clear risk of harm to self or harm to others or in cases of liability for civil or criminal court proceedings if the information was not disclosed. If possible, this would be discussed beforehand.

Psychological reports can be provided on request depending on requirement and circumstances. Any notes or records kept by myself are protected by personal registration with the Information Commission Office (under the Data Protection Act 2018).

It is good practice for all psychologists to receive regular supervision from other health care professionals. Any case material discussed will be under a pseudonym and with any identifying details omitted or altered.

I hold the contact data from your ‘initial assessment online form’ electronically, privately, securely, and password protected. Although I may record written information about what you tell me in our sessions, I record only brief notes; these act as an 'aide memoire' so that I can review the course of your therapy as time progresses. I may record appointments on paper in my diary, and data about the number of sessions and the payments you make electronically. I also record the number of sessions you have and the payments you make for business purposes. You can access your records by making a verbal or written request.

I am registered with the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) and all note-taking and record keeping is stored in accordance with their protocols and in alignment with the Data Protection Act 2018. Under UK Tax Law any personal data will be stored for a minimum of 6 years, after which time it will be destroyed. For more information on data protection please visit ICO.
