Speaking to a trained professional, such as myself, involves a special kind of relationship: one which is dedicated to you, is confidential, impartial and is with someone experienced in helping you understand your situation and symptoms more clearly.

Through my many years of research, training, and clinical work I have seen that within a relationship built on acceptance, empathy, and trust, along with the use of evidence-based techniques and skills, people can create meaningful and rewarding changes in their lives.

  • A safe and confidential space
  • Online or in-person sessions
  • Warmth, compassion, and empathy
  • Practical skills and solutions
  • Easy to use online booking system with choice of appointment times (subject to availability)
  • Evidence-based practice that is tailored to you and your specific needs
  • Over 20 years of clinical experience and training
  • Registration with HCPC (Health and Care Professionals Council), BPS (British Psychological Society) and the Institute of Psychedelic Therapy
  • Adherence to ethical and professional codes of practice
  • Provision of letters and psychological reports (on request)
  • Full insurance and data protection

I have seen countless people, some with highly complex levels of trauma and distress, make radical and enduring changes to their lives through psychotherapy.

According to the American Psychiatric Association at least 75% of people who undertake psychotherapy find it beneficial. Why shouldn’t one of the success stories be you?

Co-created

Together we will co-create a unique space, safely held with compassion, empathy, and non-judgement. In this way, at your own pace, your story, your truth, and your own experience can be witnessed and accepted. Acknowledging the past, you can then begin to review and re-frame outmoded beliefs, challenge unhelpful behaviours and develop new skills. Throughout the process, I will assist you to find greater psychological resilience, flexibility, insight, and compassion to help you live a life that is more rewarding, and full of possibilities.

Beyond the therapy session

As a client of mine, you will typically be spending only 1 of your 168 hours of the week in therapy. This means it must really count, so I will give you the skills and understanding that you need to make progress outside the therapy room, as well as within it. This may entail homework, such as mindfulness practices, or specific activities such as recording thoughts or trying new behaviours, as well as taking time outside of sessions to reflect, practice new skills and to take committed actions (but always at your own discretion and pace).

Integration of approaches

I work with an integration of approaches developed from many years of training and experience working with people of all different backgrounds, including high-risk individuals convicted of violent crimes, refugees fleeing torture and war, survivors of domestic abuse, primary school children at risk of neglect, severely mentally ill adolescents and corporate high-flyers in London’s financial district. All my interventions are evidence-based and informed by the latest research and my commitment to continuing professional development.

How we meet

Choosing online therapy is easy, convenient, comfortable, and has been found to be equally as effective as in-person therapy according to numerous studies [1] [2] [3]. Nevertheless, I also offer in-person sessions if you prefer, at the comfort and privacy of my consulting rooms in Devon, UK (further details provided upon booking).

Truly, I feel very blessed to offer you my time, experience, and skills, and look forward to meeting you. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any further questions, or would like a free 30-minute consultation at: hello@josieseydel.com

I believe that effective therapy depends on the quality of the sessions, not the quantity of them. I understand that people may not want to be in therapy for extended periods and so I specialise in therapy that is brief but powerful - catalysing change from the very first session.

As a rule of thumb, however, between 12-24 sessions is generally enough to be effective, although some people benefit from longer-term work over several years and there is no fixed number of sessions (no minimum or maximum number) unless that is something you wish to personally set. Sessions can be online, in-person (in Devon, UK) or a combination. Appointments can also be spaced at intervals that suit you and your schedule.

In addition to individual therapy, I also offer couples therapy, supervision,  support groups, workshops and special programmes. For a list of what is currently on offer please see the ‘Events’ page.

Fees and Conscious Therapy

As a psychological practitioner I am uncomfortable with the current state of mental health provision in the UK. We have reached a crisis point, which is never reassuring if you are in need of help. The waiting lists are disgracefully long, therapy provision is often limited and of inconsistent quality.

My aim with my practice is to provide you with a quality, cost-effective service that supports me financially, without excess. My fees cover letters and reports, on-going supervision costs, professional membership fees, web maintenance and continuing professional development costs. You may well find that many other private psychologists are charging double (or more!) than my fees, and whilst some less qualified practitioners may well charge less, I guarantee that for the level of skill and qualifications I offer you will be getting a fair deal. In addition, I offer groups and regular programmes which may be more accessible if finances are limited. I offer a limited number of concessionary spaces, please email me at hello@josieseydel.com for further information.
